Wait on a sec, I've not had the chance to look at DM where all this is going on, i'll do that if not tonight then in the morning. However did someone say that there is no semi RPG of any sort at DM??? So what happens to the Game that we are working so hard on improving or the Quest???
I'm about to be stubborn and incapable of seeing reason, but I REFUSE to give those things up! If moving completely over to DM means no more Game or Quest then I probably won't stick around. Its things like that which makes these boards nice and more enjoyable. How are we going to know for sure what we can and can't have at DM untill its too late? I'm extremely livid at the moment and there probably is a way to learn exactally what we can and can't do there, however it seems as if we are under the rule of a dictatorship that can and will change their minds at will.
Grrr i could scream right now, and if this were happening in RL i'd probably throttle somone for being so dam insensitive. GAH! I should probably go look at DM and see whats being said there but as I said, if we end up deciding to stay with DM and both the Game and Quest are no longer allowed i'd probably leave just out of principle! Right now I say break away and form our own website for that reason alone.
Grrrrrrrrr dam it, now I want a cigarette

Possibly what I said wasn't clear since it was typed in haste, I wasn't disagreeing with you Horn, nor did I mean its not our decision as an Org, including all members. Corki usually works that way so I would expect nothing less given this is a major issue. I just meant that whatever happens next, the timing of what happens is down to him as Org Leader, whether its holding a vote or waiting to see how the trial runs go. As to shutting up, I have no intention of doing so. This is the one place where I feel we can all speak freely. And I, as it happens, have NOT posted at DM on that blasted thread. Partly because if I start I'd be liable to cut certain people into shreds for their hypocritical comments and partly because... well, to be honest, I'm sick of the whole subject. ;D Besides, quite a few of you have already covered the points I would make myself, so I see little point in repeating it. And yeah, Vor, I'm hearing you on the Game/Quest stuff.

The info on the light RP isn't on a public board, Vorkia. I have asked Kath if this rule is only for those orgs chosing for it or if it's for all the orgs.
This one rule could undo the Band of over half it's success formulas. So yeah, im kinda' curious just exactly what other 'rules' will be forced upon us from the admin pool.
Also, it's quite obvious to me that that thread is nothing more than a hollow shell, designed to give people a false sense of having their say. Nothing that's being said there that isn't in line of the ruling body's opinions is being taken seriously and it is only considered as a venting spot for the mallcontent, their words not taken the least bit serious.

I only have a few things to say on the issue.
Should Corki and the rest of the Band as a whole decide on making a break from DM...there are only a few things I could see we'd need to do in order to get new members.
For one, like Kris and various other people have said, we do show up on google searches, and probably do get at least some amount of traffic on our log in page. All we'd need in order to catch those who swing by in curiosity is change the site from a private one to a public one.
The way we could do this without everyone being able to see everything, would be to make it so every board that we have currently is viewable only by members, and create a Welcome and Questions sort of board for new people checking out the site to post on and consider joining.
Although that made me think of another issue. If we did that, we would probably need to allow for automatic registration without approval, and the way we could do that without compromising our boards would be to put all current members into a special group, which would include regular band members and those who have specifically stated a desire to be RRs. That way when a person joins...they can only see the boards they are permitted to see. It would take a bit more work, but I could see it working if we did it that way, once everyone was put into the groups it would only take as much effort as giving an RR a new rank icon I'd think to put them in that list. We could have regular discussions, and maybe a spam board, and a group of mods who take care of the upkeep of these boards and serve as welcomers to these newcomers.
That would be all we really need to do.
Maybe even put some more emphasis into the upkeep and updating of our website, so it too can bring more people onto our boards.
I will not post my opinion on either side of this argument, but I do know it is possible to do all that with a proboard as I have owned a couple in the past.

I agree, what Alisha says sounds about right. Though a more elaborate way could also be a possibility, as in creating a new motherboard and keeping the offsite boards 'offsite'.
Regarding the Light RP restriction, I got an answer from Kath and she confirms: this rule would apply to àll orgs, not just the WT. What this means for the Band is this: every and all activity that is done in the style of a light RP would have to be done on this Revolation One board and 'not' on the Band boards. The ORG Game, the raising ceremonies of each regiment, the RR ceremonies, every thread in which light rp occurs such as the Cav's Meadow, the Jousts, the Infantry spars, etc. All that would become outlawed on the Band's boards under DM posting rules and be banned to this other board, run by a non-Band moderator who sets the rules for that board also under DM admin super-ruling.

After reading that new information I really don't like this a lot. The Meadow is a big part of the Cav, which also helps us get ready for the Joust. Now the Joust has gone through several changes recently, and many people have worked to turn it into what it is. I do not really like the idea of having a DM admin in charge of these things. The Infantry Spars are the same as the Joust, many Infantry members have gone through them to make them successful and I'm sure they too don't want to see their stuff run by a DM mod. Basically that rule would kill off the RR program as was stated before.
Honestly, I think we have the ability to be self-sustained if Corki so chooses that way for us. However, if we do become self-sustained maybe create a new fan site and link to that and leave this as an offsite board. Its still a possibility, and maybe if there are other orgs that are thinking of a split, then we could join with them if the orgs all agree.

As for the light RP, I'm going to ignore that completely. It's just another stupid rule that ruins fun for the ORGs. If Kath (or anyone) keeps nagging me about it, I'll tell them my views on it, and that what the Band does wouldn't work on that board. So, whatever "light RP" we do is staying with us, no matter where we go. I hope that puts people's minds at rest.
As for whether we split, I really do not want to leave DM. I want to stay, and I am now taking my concerns with the whole episode up with Jason, since he is the owner of the site. All I want is some changes in the ways things are done at the top, and power of the "sub domains" answered, since proboards do not transfer.
But if if gets to that stage, a poll will be put up to see whether you guys what to break away from DM. Then if you want to, we'll decide how to take things from there.
Now that they are saying that some ORGs will be used as testers, it will be interesting to the results.
I am still against the move (as sub domains will go down as well if DM goes down), but I am willing to co-operate AS LONG AS[/b] concerns and issues are answered, and I feel satisfied with what I have been told.
But time to take things up with Jason...

Having discussed the "Light RP" issue with Owen, everything is staying with the Band UNLESS I deem it worthy to be placed on the ToW board.
I don't know how Kath is going to react to that, but I am taking Owen's word. We discussed things in a civilised manner (he asked for examples of our ceremonies and ORG Game layout, which I gave). He asked if I was happy to move things to ToW. When I said "no", he said fine, since it's my ORG and I can run it as I please.

Kath has replied as follows: A game like you described is fine, Orgwise. I'd prefer if you didn't RP ceremonies, but I'll allow it. At least I won't be causing any more problems in the Staff Board...for now, anyway! ;D

See? Told Ya... This is from Jason two hours ago...
To address your questions: DM belongs at Dragonmount.com. The admins are providing nice message boards on a stable network of servers to any groups or org who wants to run an online club based on the Wheel of TIme. (So long as they meet a reasonable about of minimum requirements) If you want to run message boards and stuff outside of DM -- fine. No problem. But you may not use the name DM when you do so. Clear enough?
How DARE I suggest such a thing? Cause Jason opened the door before I even seriously considered mentioning it. And I never, ever, said we should keep these boards open but secret. Just not throw their being active about like mardi gras beads.
Jasons statement above, provides a fall back position for us, with no conflict between us and DM, and easily too... So we can all take a deep breath, and work to make the sub-board thing happen to our satisfaction or as close as we can.
Thank you Myst, I hadn't thought or had forgotten the stupid restrictions on our RP over there, but I don't really see why Jason would disagree with our keeping those kinds of things in our subs either. They aren't public, so they don't conflict with what the RP fanatics do. Its not what they do there. As Corki has indicated in his convo with Owen. That Kath would think they were not allowed is only a function of her obliviousness to what is goin on here and hurling a directive.... again. Re: our discussion of books in our own boards.. phawww!
Oh.. and yes I was blunt and tactless in a post or four, but some people only react without thinking you weak kneed ... to the same thing they throw out. To those who throw that around I would say..."If ya can't stand the heat, stay outta the kitchen.

Yes. Right. But does...
"If you want to run message boards and stuff outside of DM -- fine. No problem. But you may not use the name DM when you do so. Clear enough?"
... extend to the point where we can still point people in the direction of these boards from DM? If not, then it really does seem pointless to keep these boards and do the thing at DM as well.
Secondly, I don't know how aware DM admin are with regards to how extensive the boards are here. If the Band were to move, in its entirety to DM, can the forum there even support us and our 150 boards and subboards (YES, we have that many!) even if we were to start from scratch? Or would they want to change the entire structure of the ORG so that it fits their purposes?
And also, if the Band were to move to DM, I do not think that our mods (XO,UC,MG) would have the power to modify user profiles any longer... and I'm also not sure if it is even possible to have a second avatar and more detailed description on the new boards. So what I'm saying is, we will lose everything related to rank icons and rank descriptions... therefore losing part of our identities. Of course, these could be changed manually by the user but they would then lose the ability to have their own personal avatar and I'm not sure people are willing to do that...
I have many many more feelings and thoughts on this topic and some of the related ones brought up in this thread... However, I don't feel right expressing them right now as I shouldn't even exactly be here! ;D

Some interesting points, Curator. I think I shall use them later on. I know Kris mentioned everything being the same in the thread at DM, and you've made the same point here. I'll use that in my next email with Jason.

Jason knows how many boards we have and says DM could support them all. I don't think he fully appreciates why we need so many although myself and, I believe, Horn have both attempted to illustrate that. His response to me was that , whilst he thinks that many boards is down to bad management , if we really needed that many they should be able to accomodate it. Should!! But no promises. We would of course take the opportunity to weed out what we really needed or to amalgamate where possible but yes, we do need a considerable number of boards with room for further growth and yes, Jason is aware of that fact. We also extended an invitation to Jason to come have a look around and get a better sense of what we do here. Having said that, the point you raised on avatars and ranks etc is a very valid concern.

About RP, I also emailed Kath yesterday and she told me it would be fine so long as it isn't excessive. Pretty much so long as we keep it at the current level and in a private band board, it will be fine.

ranks and their needing multiple avatars is another thing I hadn't thought of recently. Outside of them all being a part of what makes us... us.
Just look at the siggys on this page, well not mine so much. These are an integral part of our off DM experience... and I for one don't feel like settling for a measly 150hX600w puny canvas.. Which is likely to be the compromise Jason agrees to... or close at best... To Jason that would be a HUGE compromise.. a monstrous siggy!
Not that siggys alone are what make us, but all totaled, it is one thing. And we are going to be forced to accept downsizing every aspect of our site.. In my opinion
