Another interesting point...Simple Machines lists all its converters. I can't see anything for proboards, but that maybe because I am not looking for the right thing. Can someone techy/in the know, have a look and confirm it for me, before making a fool of myself with false information? Thanks!

also on a side note.. Vanion's job is to order what sites are listed first in search engines... he could help us out. He might even be able to help us get our own url and keep these boards.. he did that with the BT. *shrugs*

If you type "Band of the Red Hand" into Google, we come out extremely high. We come in next after 2 sites that are WoT reference sites. Our offboard site comes in above the DM public forum page. And what do you mean by "getting our own url like he did with the BT"??

BT used to have a long complicated url like we have. Then Vanion came along, did some work, and BAM. www.black-tower.org. ALL of the posts transferred over. Though I'm not sure if it would work with proboards... Corki, did we get the concession that we could keep these at least for archiving purposes? If that is the case, we could make the boards for public viewing and disable posting except for admin, and still keep the reviews here, as well as the directory.

I took a look at that site Corki... and we wouldn't be able to import any of our posts using any of those tools... That's as in English as I can make it.

There seem to be an awful lot of myths flying around here.
I think Kris has adequately covered the technical aspects of it.
This idea that we need DM for new members is just hocus pocus and is coming from an obvious lack of knowledge on how web sites and search engines work.
What Manny said was also valid, the copyright issue only comes into play if we advertise ourselves as affiliated to Dragonmount.com as a web site. Otherwise, its just an empty threat. How many references do we actually have here to that fact? All in all very few compared to the other information available. What Manny was saying is that if we no longer affiliate ourselves, then there is absolutely nothing that Jason can do about our continued existence (not via proboards or anywhere else).
As things stand, they are threatening us. Like Kris, I don't respond well to threats. Especially when the simple fact is this... when the chips are down, those threats are empty ones. The worst they can do is ban us from DM and if we were running independently, I doubt that would matter very much.

Do I have to break out my barrister on ya? What Kris said is correct. Jason owns the copyright to nothing more than dragonmount as a fan community. Thats it... We don't even have to say we aren't affiliated with them.
All we have to do is NOT say we are a dragonmount community. Its that simple. And he has no more to stand on than that.. How in hell, can he come to proboards and tell them to delete a forum that is a fan site for a bunch of books that he doesn't write.. He can not sue pro boards because we exist as "Band of the Red Hand." Thats ludicrous. Jordan maybe, but thats far fetched and not likely. Possible but not likely. The more sites the better for him.
Jason can in no way stop anyone from having a fan site. He cant even stop someone from belonging to one other than his, which is the only ONLY thing a banning threat accomplishes. If he does or if any of his admins threaten banning because someone does .. THATS INTERNET BULLYING.... and that IS unethical. If not illegal.
Besides which Jason has already said he cant stop these kinds of sites, only that they cannot profess to be affiliated with "Dragonmount a fan community."

Disclaimer: Newbie opinion. Read at own risk.
I have to agree with Riva. These offsite boards can simply be re-labeled as unofficially associated with the BotRH.
Then all it is, is a place where our members gather to discuss Band issues. It's on par with MSN and other instant messengers, it's just where we happen to be. The BotRH is a community, wherever we go, there we are. We'll just all congregate to these unaffiliated boards.
Don't try and hide the boards or anything, nobody is suggesting that. But clearly define these boards as an unassociated gathering place for Band members.
If any of the admins accuse the leaders of the org of keeping the boards. Just tell them that it's the members that maintain and run the board. From what I can tell, it's the truth anyway.
Stick it to the Man Corki!
Just don't become the Man, then we'll have to stick it to you.

To be blunt, I am shocked. I had no idea any of this was going on. And after reading this, I am quite disgusted with the admins of DM. I back you all the way, Corki!

There is now a thread on the DM General Board discussing this very issue. Click here to go and have a read. Feel free to voice your opinions. I'm saving myself at the moment...I want to see what others say before weighing in with my views.

That thread seems to be more of a statement than a discussion with the Forum Admin starting off by making it clear all opposed are unwanted.
Personally, I don't see any more need for discussions on the transfer to DM. At this point in time, they could give in to all our demands concerning the subdomain and it won't matter much. Relations are already too strained and the DM staff will not have changed. But that's just me. With my 3 posts a week and a few lottery tickets I got nothing to lose.

my thoughts exactly, Froix. It seems pointless starting that now when all the decisions have been made. She had a similar thread in the WT Hall, but I told her I had said what I wanted to on the general boards and that I didn't feel that was the right spot for that discussion.
I dunno, feels a bit like 'too little too late' to me. *shrugs*
