As some of you may or may not know, about a year ago, the decision to move all the activities relating to the Band of the Red Hand back to DM was made. The decision was to move the Band back when DM 8 was released, which had been planned for sometime last year. Unfortunately, due to various reasons that I cannot disclose, DM 8 has hit a stumbling block. Emperor, the DM Community Admin, does not see DM 8 being released for another 6 months at the earliest. So the Band of the Red Hand is currently stuck in its limbo situation as it has been for several months now.
At the back end of last year, the thought about moving the Band back earlier had crossed my mind. The off board sites were quiet, and activity at DM was picking up. Earlier this year, I went to Emperor to get the latest news on DM 8, and what he told me made me think that moving the Band back now was the best option - off board sites are quiet, and it would give some fresh impetus to the Band and may make new members look in at the visible changes and get a few older ones to return. This also coincides with my plan to make the Captain-General position a permanent one for the next 6 months.
I know last year the whole moving back to DM decision caused a lot of hassle and heartache, but the Band has been recovering slowly. We had to scale back a lot of our activities, but I hope that during 2010, they can come out and show the Band to be the place that won the Best ORG Emperor Award in 2008. This process has started with the Regimental Competition coming out at the end of 2009. Plus 2010 is the Band's 5th birthday as an ORG, and it would be a great birthday present to get it to its former glory.
As a result, over the coming weeks, the boards for the Band of the Red Hand ORG here at DM will change and increase in numbers. I want to get the set up to be as close as possible to what was outlined for DM 8. The Regiments would get private boards, and depending on the success of the Captain-Generals, additional boards could be set up with the internal structures that some of the Regiments have.
The Band's Senior Staff will be planning a timeline of when the boards should appear. The Regimental boards are already set up, minus private boards, which will be part of phase 1. Also part of phase 1 would be the creation of the Redarm boards, the boards for the Raw Recruit scheme and a Band staff board for those in the position of Captain-General. Phase 2 is likely to include the review boards, and changes to our public and main private board, as well as the admin side of the ORG. Due to my plan to resurrect the Band's dice based game, this will probably be phase 3. Anything else will be part of Phase 4. When the Band's Senior Staff has a timeline, we will go to the DM admins with it to get their approval. Once that has been done, I will announce the structure to the Band. My current aim is for the Band to be back at DM by March 31st 2010, or as close as possible to that date.
One question that might be on Banders' lips is why I didn't ask you for input in this decision. Basically, the decision to move back was made a year ago, and I wasn't going to do another U-turn. Now looks an ideal time to do this. The timeline process is for a discussion between the Band's Senior Staff and the DM Admins. However, if you want to input any ideas on when things should move back, then please do so.
In the meantime, please ask any questions. I hope that Emperor will be about to answer any questions that might come up as well.
