I want to get a debate started about an idea I would like to have for DM 8 when we move back. I have dropped the idea with Brid and DJ, and they like the idea. Below I will outline the proposal and look forward to your input.
PROPOSAL
I would like our review section (i.e. albums, holidays, gigs, restaurants) to be public so that the whole of DM can see them.
MAIN PRO
- It would make our ORG focus of music and travel a lot more prominent and open to the rest of DM. It might lead to better participation from non-ORG members, which is something I would like to happen.
MAIN CON
- It could make points tricky. I have spoken to Brid about this, and she doesn't think it would be too much of a problem. It may take a month or two to get things sorted, but I am sure that once a routine is in place, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
OTHER ISSUES
- In order to make sure reviews aren't doubled, there will be a link to all reviews here, as well as the gradual movement of information onto the wiki site. Something that would need considering is if a non-ORG member wanted to comment on a "dead" review. Do we have a dead review section?
- DM 8 will allow for threads to be voted (upto 5 stars). I do not know if this is a feature that can be turned off for certain boards, but should we consider it for the reviews? How should it be for the reviews - a mark for the thread, or for the album/restaurant/gig/location if people have been to it?
QUESTIONS
Please ask any questions that you have, and I will do my best to answer them.
I am looking for a bit of a debate as we try to work out what the best way forward is. I will keep a note of key issues raised so that it can be included in the proposal when we reach the voting stage.
I shall leave this open for between 1 to 2 weeks before reaching the first vote stage.
Personally, I am in favour of our reviews going public.
