Having taken on board what has been mentioned in the discussion thread, here is the final outline for the Band Idol tour - which is the Regimental Competition for September and October.
Band Idol – Information
As part of the Band of the Red Hand’s first ever tour of DM, we shall be hosting a series of events at each ORG, which is going under the title of Band Idol. This will form part of our Bi-monthly Regimental Competition, as the Band of the Red Hand tries to find out which Regiment is actually the best – a claim made by all three Regiments. And we want your help. Points are gained and accumulated from the various competitions during the year, resulting in the Regiment with the most points at the end of the year winning the Best Regiment Award at The Matrims, our end of year Oscar style ceremony that celebrates the achievements within the ORG, .
For September and October, the other ORGs of DM will be involved in this competition. We will be running a tour called Band Idol, which will be based on the popular TV brand that started with Pop Idol and spreading to different countries. For the next 9 weeks, various topics related to the Band of the Red Hand ORG and the Wheel of Time will be picked and the members of the three Regiments (the Archers, the Cavalry and the Infantry) will create Jak O' the Shadow verses – and post them before you.
Jak O' the Shadow Verses Limits
In order to stop epics being written, the entries must contain between 3 and 5 verses.

Monday 15th September --> Sunday 21st September: The One Power or a specific Aes Sedai from the book

The Competition
The three Regiments have been given advance warning of what is expected at what time during Band Idol competition. They are currently working on their verses for posting.
Next is the intended format for the competition, which I want to keep to as much as possible to allow for smooth running of the event.
- Between Monday and Wednesday (but also the rest of the time as well), there will be general chit-chat and activity between the Band and the ORG we are visiting. It can be about anything – music, travel, the Band itself, general posting!
- From Thursday onwards, we get down to serious business. Ideally, I would like one member of each Regiment to post their entry on the Thursday – and please announce your entry!
- Once all entries have been posted, the judges comments and voting begins – until Sunday night. Then the winners from the viewers votes is announced.
The Voting
You, the members of the ORGs we visit, will get a chance to have a say in the outcome of the entries. Once voting has opened, all you need to do is say which Jak O’ the Shadow verses you prefer. I will keep a tally of the votes, and the Regiment that gets the most votes from the viewers earns 4 points, 2 points for the Regiment that comes second and 1 point for the Regiment in last place.
The Judges
Pop Idol has its evil judges. And Band Idol will be no different. However, there will be no Simon Cowell or Sharon Osbourne. Instead, you get the Senior Staff of the Band of the Red Hand. They are:
- Corki
- Taymist
- BridMorgan
We are the bad guys, and we’ll be bickering and arguing about anything and everything related to the show – which is normal behaviour for us! At the end of the week, we will come up with our winning entry from the Jak O’ the Shadow verses, the second place and last place. The winning Regiment picks up 4 points; 2 points go to the Regiment in 2nd place, and 1 point for last place.
The Winning Regiment
The winning Regiment of the competition is the one that amasses the most points throughout the whole competition – both from the viewers votes and the judges votes. It’s as simple as that. They will earn 4 points towards the Matrim for Best Regiment; 2 points goes to the runners-up, and 1 point to the Regiment in last place.
Do you want to follow the tour?
I am more than happy for members of other ORGs to follow us on tour as visit each of the other Regiments. I am more than happy for you to cast your votes in those threads as well – this is our tour, and we want as many people involved as possible!
Band Law
Throughout this time, all Banders (even if you are a member of the ORG we are visiting) have to comply with Band Law. Our Redarms will be on patrol, and ready to punish any Bander who transgresses the law. If the punishment is severe enough to warrant a trial, a public trial will be held on the Band’s public boards at DM. There will be no escape. Please enjoy the fun nature and environment that blossoms out of our laws and punishments.
Other Activities
Throughout this period, the Band of the Red Hand shall be hosting its weekly thread, “Tune or No Tune” on the public boards of the ORGs we visit. This is an activity we hold on our own public boards and the Band wants to share it with the rest of DM to generate extra outside interest in the thread. Therefore, I shall be posting a poll thread, and all you need to do is decide whether the song I choose is a TUNE (i.e. you love it) or a NO TUNE (i.e. you hate it). Just cast your vote in the poll and add any comments you want. It’s very simple and I hope this generates extra interest in this thread hosted by the Band of the Red Hand ORG.
Final Word
Once the Band leaves, please can the ORG Leaders move any of our threads back to the Band’s public boards. That way, we can keep it in one place. That would be much appreciated.
Also, if this proves successful, we’ll be back in the New Year for a new series!
