To put the dumb "it's your computer" argument to rest, allow me to spec and then I'll dumb it down.

Get a new line and get on topic.

Nice compy Kris. ;D
Back to the original topic, I use multiple windows to do more than one thing at once. In the time it took me to open a post reply thread at DM, I had posted in two threads here and was browsing through a third. Sometimes it's people's computer, a lot of the time it's the site itself. A lot of people get frustrated with that, myself included sometimes.
As for what to do about encouraging activity, by all means create public regimental boards over at DM that have the purpose of recruiting new people who will be able to see what the regs are like, but leave the regimental boards here as they are.

If you honestly think that is all it will take to move entirely to DM, you are sadly mistaken...
WE HAVE 721 THREADS IN THE REVIEW SECTION that would HAVE to be moved over!!!!! To NOT save all the reviews would not only be a blatent disregard to several years of Banders work, but it would be downright irresponsible... and do you really want to move all 721 of them? Not to mention that almost 700 of them are individually linked so you can find them.... We are not just talking hours here... days maybe. The converter program of Corki's is the only way they can go over, and even then, you still have 700 urls to edit.
But beyond all that, the truth remains: You can lead the horse to water, but you can't make it drink. Most anything good over here, once moved to DM, will instantly lose at least half of its activity, assuming it even can survive the move. The sad truth of the matter is too many of us don't like DM and would not follow the activities over.
That being said, the Band would recover eventually. Enough new recruits over the next 2 years, and no one would know the difference... you'd just have a lot of names of Band members that the newbies barely know because they only lurk. An alarming number of current banders will quickly turn into the Razz's, Mushus, Cumas, and Canis's of today.

And I am also looking forward to moving all those reviews onto the wiki! But hopefully everyone will be involved with that, so it will save the time and hassle.

I'll stick with my three points. 1. (For Me) DM page load time 4-5 sec, here about 2-3 seconds. 2. Keep everything here as it is. Create regeimental public boards and ask (and cross fingers) that the regiments make some effort at participation. 3. Continue to come up with and encourage others to come up with ideas for posting at DM(ie, BattleofBands, AotM, etc). And, again aske (and hope) for participation. Try not to get too frustrated with the lack of support. Too many are set in their comfort zones and don't want to change(Not a bad thing, just a personal choice). More than likely the fact that this discussion has happened will stir some of the fencesitters to post more at DM, for a while anyways. Run with that.

I'm sorry, I'm not the sort of person who is going to write a lot in this thread. I didn't join the BotRD for the music side of it I joined because I liked the people and the military ranks etc. To increase activity I would suggest more games (not just music related) and regimental boards. Currently when I flick through the main ORG board I feel awkward whenever I consider starting a thread because it all seems so official. This causes me to get the feeling that me starting a thread on a band or a song etc wouldn't really be appreciated in amongst all the more formal threads... I also get this feeling with the campfires board. Maybe if we just had one board that had official things like the regimental competitions.. Hmmm, that was terribly written...

So, what I was so inarticulately trying to say in that last post is that I think we need a place where we can just post anything. Like all those threads we have here where people have just commented on their life or even discussed why they prefer a certain colour of socks (hasn't found one of those yet but is still looking.... )

just for interests sake.. www.simplemachines.org/quite interesting to look around this site... EDIT: just had a go at downloading the package....and im being very dense and not being able to expand a zip file so i cant install the program....my aim was basically to create smf site and then use corkis converter to change data from this one to that one without changing this one...to my mind it really shouldnt be hard. anyone fancy having a go? its free to download... ill probably have another go at lunch but right now i need to learn this essay.. FURTHER EDIT: opened the file! WOO!! so its basically the HTML for the site which i would presume would need to be put into a website building program and then uploaded and edited...uploading is a problem as you need an account and domain etc so there was really no point doing any of this....apart from showing that you do have to pay for stuff if not the HTML for the forum....ahhh...so annoying.

And to go back to your point about the domiance of music (which I believe has been mentioned elsewhere in this thread), there is nothing stopping Banders from posting anything on our public boards. We do need to have a balance, and it is probably too heavy on the music side. So feel free to start anything on our public boards. Also, I am just putting in the request for Regimental Boards at DM. We will use the summer as a trial period.

converters only work if you can dump the database to a file, then upload it. I did that test back last year when Jason first talked about moving us over.
