Im an enginerd and had to learn both systems thoroughly and had to switch back and forth between them all of the time. That is a huge pain. But, in practice, it is necessary in case you have dealings with overseas companies that give you data in a different system than you are working in. There have been several very costly disasters due to not converting data to what you are using it for. I think the whole world should just use metric. It is much easier to use than Imperial.
Interesting little geology lesson there. I took a rock mechanics class one time. Some of that looks familiar to me.
Oh, and, the old hot water trick really works there Odds. Did it to one of my friends before and he definitely wet himself. Although, this is the same friend that has wet the bed about every other night that he gets drunk. LOL

Glad to hear there were no injuries. I think the article made mention about this being a certain type of quake that occurs in the absence of a major fault line. Here is an interesting article about a fault near where I live. New MadridBig quake on this fault line rang church bells 1000 miles away.

Northie, I like enjoyed that...but then I love geography and geology...and plate tectonics was always my favourite. Don't care what others say, but then I also love ancient history...so in that case the two go together Thanks El Nyn..it's gone quiet now

Corki's major may not be as relevant as geology, Northie, but it is sure as hell fun to learn about. Those Romans knew how to have a good time.

Haha, I appreciate geology. I study geotechnical engineering which simulates how soil, not rock, fails at times of distress. I can give a ton of boring lectures on that. Who wants to hear some. ;D

I dunno, Latin grammer can be pretty boring. I actually did fall asleep once while waiting for one of my classmates to decide if a verb was Genitive or Dative. ;D
