We just finished one of our competitions, so I would like your input. What went well in the competition? What went poorly? What did you like, and what did you dislike? Is there anything we could do to make this better and to encourage more participation?
Any constructive critism would be very appreciated!

I certainly liked the idea of this competition, but the one thing I really didn't like was the time factor. I understand it adds an extra element of competitiveness, but wasn't that fun. I think more people would have participated had there had not been the "first regiment to answer" rule. It really made it an individual competition, not a regimental competition. Usually, whoever saw the post first answered as fast as they could, there was no group input/discussion on the answers. But like I said, I liked the idea of the competition, I learned about some places I had never heard of!

I'd have to agree with what Brid said. This month's competition seemed to become more of an individual competition, rather than a regimental competition. I mean if you look at all the answers given for the regiments, all three regiments had 2 or 3 people at most answer the questions. That's not really regimental. I did, however, enjoy the questions and the game itself in that anyone could do it, we just need to find a way to make it more regimental.

I'd add as well that the time rule made it extremely unfair.
First, the time zone issue - 10pm and later isn't easy for people here because they usually have work the next day and I know Myst couldn't stay up that late being ahead of us, Kara had to get to bed and was staying up too late just to answer.
Second, it also comes down to page loading rates. The few days I was doing it, the replies had literally seconds between them... so it's not down to who is best or whose knowledge is better, its down to whether someone has dial up or broadband, a good pc or a bad one.
I don't really think that's fair or fun... or especially Regimental as there was no time to post in private boards and discuss. It was a simple case of a Google search and PM as fast as you can.
Personally, I thought the quiz you did a few months back on the Saints etc was much better as it gave time to discuss things. But ideally, it needs to be done in sections where the Regiment has longer than 24 hours to do one part of it in order to give everyone a chance to be involved regardless of time zone.

Thanks for the feedback so far. I'm going to take some of what has been said, and explain why I chose to do things this way, so hopefully it will be clearer.
The first thing I will comment on is the "first regiment to answer", as Brid put it. The aim of the competition was to see who was the fastest of the 3 Regiments. Maybe this did make it more of an individual competition, but that wasn't my plan. The first few days went well, as I got answers from all 3 Regiments, but sadly the Archers lost their way when Odds couldn't get on at the time I put the clues up. Participation is something that the Archers need to work on. Also, I wasn't expecting such rapid replies, even if I did stump you a couple of times. Maybe I need to find a different source of information...
As for the time when posting the clues, part of that is my fault. I did say between 8pm and 10pm my time, but that didn't happen at the start, as I couldn't get online until 10pm when I was back home. And as a result, I just continued as I had before. So I will put my hand up and take the blame for that.
I try not to have repeated methods of competitions when doing the Regimental Competitions. That also explains why it was fastest first, instead of like I did the Saint's one a while back. However, because that method was prefered to the "fastest answer first' method, when we do something similar next time, I will consider that method instead. And as has been pointed out, it makes it much more Regimental.
Because of the unsatisfaction at individuality, it has caused me to rethink how I am going to do October's half of the competition. I am setting it up now, and it will definitely have Regimental interaction. Information will be posted here, as well as in a thread in your private boards.
