Corki stands before the whole Band of the Red Hand in his best dress uniform. His armour, recently polished for the Awards Season, glistens in the evening moonlight, his cloak fluttering in the wind, and Mr. Ed looking looking his regal best (something of a rarity for that horse), his katana hanging down from his waist. Corki then begins to shout loudly, so all can hear what he has to say for he knows the Band of the Red Hand can get rowdy at times like this.
Ladies and Gentlemen of the Band of the Red Hand, the greatest fighting machine in Randland, whether you are a Raw Recruit or a Captain-General, I am extremely delighted to welcome you here tonight for the fourth awards ceremony that is known as The Matrims. Tonight, like in previous years, we honour our fellow members with these prestigious awards to those whom we think have put a lot into this ORG, this community, making what the Band of the Red Hand is today - a close-knit unit of men and women willing to stand beside next each other in a scrap, in a battle, in drinking, in being merry, in life.
Now, to begin proceedings, it's time for a toast. And the first one is us, the Band of the Red Hand ORG and the friends we have found here.
Loud roars of agreement were heard from the assembled crowd of Banders as they drank their Brews heartily. Corki raises his hands and the Band quietened down.
In my eyes, 2008 has not been as good a year as 2007. I know we won the Best ORG Award and Best Community Thread at the Emperor Awards at DM early in 2008, I don't we have built upon that success. A lot of that was down to me not being as active as I wanted and doing things. But my last year of university has now finished and I am in the big wide world of work, and I feel I have more time to dedicate to the Band and all our activities. As a result, I am really looking forward to huge progress in 2009.
We've grown a lot during the year. I suspect we could be the biggest ORG at DM - and this is only because I am too lazy to go through our usergroup and turf out the dead wood. New members have joined, and a few older members have popped in now and again, like Blade, Helike and Vorkia to name a few. And as always, faces disappear. Such people include Odette and Froix, who always managed to bring a bit of brightness into the Band through their posts. I am sure they will be back one day, but like all members who join, once you are a Bander, you're always a Bander. So, grab your Brew, and let's raise our second toast of the evening! To fallen comrades!
Banders grab their mugs and steins, and raise them in the air, with a load shout of "To fallen comrades!" echoing around the area - a noise that would frighten any minion of the Dark. Every Bander takes a swig of their beloved Brew. Corki again raises his arms, and a hush settles over the crowd.
It is now time to move onto the awards. There have been no additional awards this year, but I plan of bringing in at least 3 new categories for next year's ceremony. Awards range from Best Trickster of the Year to Best ORG Member of the Year, from Best Gamer to Best Regimental Member. However, if you haven't won an award, do not fear! In my eyes, you all deserve awards for making the Band of the Red Hand what it is today - a very successful ORG and community within DM.
More cheering is heard from the Band. Corki silences the crowd by raising his arms.
We have run The Matrim Awards slightly differently this year than the usual let the Banders pick anyone. The Senior Staff acted as a committee and made their nominations for each category from which the Band voted. If this was deemed successful, we'll carry it out again next year, but we'll probably tweak a few things to make it better than this year.
So, without further a-do, grab your Brews, take your seat and let us begin the awards ceremony!

The first award tonight is The Best Trickster of 2008. Which Band member played the best trick, do you think out of those nominated? Who has been summoned before the Redarms the most for their tricks and pranks?? The 5 Banders who were nominated were as follows: - Blade of the Archers - Direwolf Jon, Senior Staff and of the Cavalry - Imperium of the Cavalry - 12th Regiment of the Infantry, and previous winner of this award - Felicur of the Cavalry And again, like the last two years, we have this award being shared by two members. Corki opens an envelope, and pulls out a piece of paper. The first winner is 12th Regiment, who holds onto this award from last year. Silliness oozes from 12th Regiment, and the Redarms are always constantly in work when 12th is about. So congratulations 12th! Now, can you make it a hat-trick of wins next year? The second winner is someone fairly new to the ORG, but they seemed to have stamped their authority with a mischevious streak. However, they seemed to have managed to get away from the Redarms with most of their tricks. Maybe now the Redarms will keep a closer eye on Felicur, who is the other winner! Therefore, I am pleased to confirm that 12th Regiment and Felicur are the joint winners of The Best Trickster of 2008. Congratulations! Loads of cheering is heard from the Band as the 2 Banders make their way to Corki. Corki shakes their hands, gives them their Silver Trophy, their medal and a Mug of Marshal-General's Special Battle Brew.

Once the 2 Banders had collected their awards, Corki raised his arms, and the Band became silent once again. The next award was new for 2007. The Raw Recruit Scheme is an integral part of this ORG as it allows the new members to experience and learn about the ORG before choosing their Regiment. A lot of hard work is put in by those members who are elected as Regimental Liaison Officers to keep these Raw Recruits out of trouble and with interesting and creative ideas to keep the new members active and learn about the ORG. You all do a fantastic job, and are a massive benefit to this ORG and the new members. Therefore, as ORG Leader, I give you my thanks for the great job you all do, and may you keep the fantastic work up! Corki raises his mug, which is now full of Brew again. To all Regimental Liaison Officers! The Band followed up the toast, and drank heartily!Between them, Direwolf Jon and BridMorgan will be along soon to announce who are the individual bi-monthly award winners, but I am now going to announce the overall winner, as voted for by the Senior Staff, all those who have served as an RLO during the year and past Raw Recruits. Below are the 5 Banders who were nominated: - Samuraiflip05 of the Archers - snin83 of the Archers - Mystica of the Infantry - Kara_J of the Infantry - Felicur of the Cavalry The winner of this award has put in a lot for their Regiment in whatever capacity they served. Their dedication to the Raw Recruits does not always pay dividends for their Regiment with new members, but their work has caught the attention of you. And I hope they keep this good work up, as they are a RLO at the moment! Despite a late surge by snin, his fellow Regimental member, the second ever winner of The Matrim for Best Regimental Liaison Officer of the Year is... Corki opened the envelope that was in his hands...Samuraiflip05!!! Loads of cheering and yelling is heard from all the Banders as Samuraiflip05 walks up to the stage to collect his Silver Trophy, his medal and a Mug of Marshal-General's Special Battle Brew.

After Samuraiflip05 had collected his award, Corki waved his hands to hush the Band, and eventually it became silent. That is only 2 awards down! We've got loads more to come, so please save yourself for later on! Now, it is time to move onto Best Redarm of 2008. So, which Redarm did you fear when you broke the law? Who didn't let any criminals sleep as they racked up the most lawbreakers? Who should the Band be wary of when the Redarms are on the prawl, looking for wrong do-ers? Below are the 5 Banders nominated for this award: - Samuraiflip05 of the Archers - Auld Manriva of the Cavalry - Alishandra of the Archers - Steel Axe of the Cavalry - KingKastchei of the Infantry From the start, this was a two horse race. After pulling out an early lead, it seemed that Manny would win the Award. Manny has served as Redarm Leader for so long I can't remember the person who held the position before him! But he does a great job keeping the Blotters Report up to date, as well as making sure the Redarms do their job...and stay corrupt! He has been helped by a few able RAZICs! But now the winner. They pulled Manny in after 9 Banders voted for him in a row! I don't think I've seen that happen before! Plus they join an ever increasing elite club as a double Matrim Award winner. They've been a constant menace to troublemakers and would-be-criminals. Nothing gets past him - well, I think I have, but I am not 100% sure on that! Anyway, without further delay, I am pleased to announce the winner of The Best Redarm of 2008 as... Corki opens an envelope, and pulls out a piece of paper. Samuraiflip05!!!!! Loads of clapping and whistling are heard from the Band as Samurailfip05 makes his way back up to Corki on the stage. Corki shakes his hand firmly, whispering "Don't become like Footy with these - he has more of these awards than skin!", gives him his Silver Trophy, his medal and a Mug of Marshal-General's Special Battle Brew.

Waving his hands once Samuraiflip05 had collected his second award of the night, the Band went silent as Corki moved onto the fourth award of the night. We now move onto The Gamer of 2008. The winner of this award is the Bander who has the best record in the ORG Game over the year. All fights earn points, with a victory picking up 2 points, while a loss loses you 1 point. It's a highly competitive world out their in the Arena. From the results table found here (which will be completed after my exam on January 17th as I hadn't realised I had none nothing for the year! lol!), you will see that snin83, Jeannaisais and myself had a decent year in the Arena. The Archers seemed to have a lot of fights amongst themselves - was this a ploy to get the award to go to an Archer? But before announcing the winner, I want to announce that there are several games outstanding from last year. These will now count for 2009's stats. I know I have a game there, and I will post there shortly - I will beat you Manny! Please can you try to get any outstanding games finished - or claim a win by default. Also, can we use the ORG Game a lot more in 2009? I know I slacked off, as did some of the bigger players. I am tempted to have an ORG Game month, with double GP for everyone who plays (if Manny agrees). Also, hopefully, all the ORG Game staff will be about to help any new players get involved, as well as others who are a bit scratchy. We have a lot to thank Canis Rufus and Mallett for, so let us not waste it! After my plea, time for the winner! But the winner is not someone I expected! He managed to do is sneakily, while the big players forgot. And with a 100% winning record, something I don't think has happened for a whole year before, the winner of The Best Gamer of 2008... Corki collects the envelope, lifting the seal and pulls out the piece of paper with the name of the winner.Direwolf Jon!!!! Cries of joy were heard from the Band as the unexpected winner, Direwolf Jon, walked up to collect. Corki shakes his hand, gives him his Silver Trophy, his medal and a Mug of Marshal-General's Special Battle Brew.

After Direwolf Jon had collected his award, Corki had trouble bringing order to the Band, but eventually managed.Have you all got enough Brew? If not, I'll get the barmen to get some more! Now the 5th Award of this wonderful night. We stick with the ORG Game for The Gamers' Gamer of 2008. Honourable mentions go to Demonspawn and Direwolf Jon for their spirit in the Arena. Yet again, there are two winners for this award, who have both showed great honour and courage in the Arena, while adding some humour and fun in their posts, bringing smiles and chuckles to everyone's lips. The ORG Game is all about fun, and allowing you to let your mind flow and imagine what you would be doing to save your skin or bash your opponent in such a situation with whatever weapon you are using. And according to you who play the ORG Game, these two Banders were shining example of this. Whether it be in the Festival of Games during the year, or when they have faces each other, there has always been entertainment. And therefore, the two winners of The Gamers' Gamer of 2008 are... The Marshal-General opens the envelope and pulls out a card with two names on it.Auld Manriva and snin83!!!! Loud cheering echoes around the stage, and Brew mugs and steins go high into the air as Auld Manriva and snin83 approach the stage to receive a Silver Trophy each, a medal each and a Mug of Marshal-General's Special Battle Brew each.

Order was quickly restored after Manny and snin had collected their awards for Best Gamer. Now, ladies and gentlemen, we move onto the Regimental Winners. The Awards Committee nominated 5 members from each Regiment for each Regiment. The winners were voted for by Regimental members. The winner of the awards were those Members who were thought to have put a lot of effert into their Regiment, pushing it forward, making the Regiment what it is today. I will deal with the Archers first. The promise at the end of 2007 flowed into 2008 as the Archers got themselves into shape. Activity has been really good for 2008 compared to 2007. Even some old members have popped by, including Helike and Vorkia. Much has changed since Blade left for 2 years, but it is good to see him sticking around - he can say "In the good ol' days...". North Star lurks, but there is a good solid core of members who will do work for the Regiment - much like the glory days when the Archers won the Best Regiment Matrim in 2006. The names nominated for the Archers Regiment are: - Jeannaisais - Samuraiflip05 - el Nynaeve - snin83 - Alishandra Any of you five could have won. You've all done a considerable amount for the Archers in 2008 to turn things around, so give yourself a pat on the back from me. However, there can only be one winner for the The Best Archer of 2008. That person is someone who has mucked in during the year, whether as a commander of the Regiment, a Redarm or a RLO. They also puts a lot of work in during the Regimental Competitions. And he and Footy can now make a seletc group of members who have won 3 Matrim Awards in a year. Therefore, the winner of The Best Archer of 2008 is... Corki opens the envelope, looks down at the name on the piece of paper and reads it out load. Samuraiflip05!!!!! Loads of cheering is heard from the Band as Samuraiflip05 makes his way to Corki to collect his third award. Corki asks if Sam if he is Footy in disguise. Corki then shakes his hand firmly, gives him his Silver Trophy, his medal and a Mug of Marshal-General's Special Battle Brew.

Having collected his third award, Samuraiflip05 returns to his place in the crowd, which goes silent as the Marshal-General continues. Now, the second Regiment is the Cavalry. The Cavalry has continues to be strong, with many Knights and Ladies being added to those already knighted as their new members pass through their prestigious Knight and Squire programme. The following 5 members were nominated by the Awards Committe for the Cavalry to vote on: - Cairos - Direwolf Jon - F Horn of Valere - Mayleigh Aes Sedai - Felicur In the end, there was a clear winner picked by the Cavalry for The Best Cavalry Member of 2008. Despite successful terms at the end of the year, it wasn't enough for Horn of May. Instead, you went back to one of your earlier Captain-Generals, who put a lot of time and work in to tighten the ship and freshen up the Knighting programme. Sadly, they are no longer part of the Cavalry Regiment as I pinched them for Senior Staff duties! There must a pattern here as Brid won it last year and I pinched her too! Plus it is his second Matrim of the evening! Therefore, the winner of The Best Cavalry Member of 2008 is... Corki pulls out another envelope, and opens it, looking at the name on the sheet of paper inside. Direwolf Jon!!!!! Loads of cheering is heard from the Band as Direwolf Jon makes his way to the stage and Corki. Corki shakes his hand, gives him his Silver Trophy, her medal and a Mug of Marshal-General's Special Battle Brew.

Once Direwolf Jon had collected his award, the crowd goes silent as the Marshal-General waves his hands so he can continue.Last, and by no means least, the last Regiment is the Infantry. With so many different characters in this Regiment, it's always fun and games in the Barracks. Don't even think about mocking them by calling them an "infant" for they will whip out their swords in no time! Several new Blademasters have been added to the ranks. Activity has been good, brawling common and an extra push in the Regimental Competitions will do you a massive favour. Like the Cavalry and Archers, it was difficult for the Awards Committee to pick 5 names for the Infantry to vote on. However, we managed it somehow, and here they are: - Kristine - Demonspawn - Taymist - Kara_J - Arrandion Despite there being a couple of heavyweights in contention for The Best Infantry Member of 2008, it went to an unsung hero of the Regiment. In fact, it went to two unsung heroes of the Regiment. Both have done the graft within the Regiment, but it has obviously mattered when to your votes. The small jobs are just as important as the big jobs. Therefore, I am pleased to announce that The Best Infantry Members of 2008 are... Corki opens yet another envelope, and pulls out a piece of paper. Kara_J and Arrandion!!!!! Loads of cheering is heard from the Band as Arrandion and Kara_J makes their way to the stage. Corki kisses Kara's cheek, gives her her Silver Trophy, her medal and a Mug of Marshal-General's Special Battle Brew before shaking Arrandion's hand, giving him his Silver Trophy, his medal and a Mug of Marshal-General's Special Battle Brew.

Once Kara and Arrandion had collected their awards, the crowd goes silent as the Marshal-General waves his hands. Now, the end is in sight! It is time to move onto The Funniest Band Member of 2008. Which Band Member has made you laugh the most and splattered your keyboard with any form of liquid? Who always cracks you up with laughter with their posts, whether you are happy or sad For the committee, this was a tough task. So many of you make us laugh in different ways. However, the final five were as follows: - Demonspawn of the Infantry - Footman of the Infantry, and previous winner of this award for the last two years - Auld Manriva of the Cavalry - Samuraiflip05 of the Archers - 12th Regiment of the Infantry And we have another tie for an award - and it could have been a three way tie if Demonspawn had one extra vote. The first winner of The Funniest Band Member of 2008 won this award last year, so there really isn't much point me saying much else. He has gotten too much praise of me in previous years, and I think he will soon be turning into a lizard with all his medels. Thankfully, the other winner of The Funniest Band Member of 2008 is someone who has me in stitches of laughter quite often. You can tell when he is about with his distinct posting style. But we most love it! And it's great to see the other winner's grip on this award loosening! Now, I wonder if they will share nicely... So, with no more delays, the winners of The Funniest Band Member of 2008 are... Corki rips open the envelope with the names in it with vigor, and pulls out the sheet of paper with the winners' names on it. Footman and Auld Manriva!!!! Loads of cheering is heard from the Band as Footman and Auld Manriva makes their way to Corki for their award. Corki shakes Footman's hand first before shaking Manriva's. Next, he gives both winners a Silver Trophy each, a medal each and a Mug of Marshal-General's Special Battle Brew each.

Once Footman and Manriva had collected their awards, the crowd goes silent as the Marshal-General waves his hands to gain control.Just 2 awards left, and these are the big two within the ORG. First, the winner of Best Regiment of the Year award is to be announced. This is based directy on performance in the bi-monthly Regimental Competitions that are held. Over the year, various competitions were contested, including an ORG Game Festival, Band Idol and various scavanger hunts. The quality of competing was brilliant all year round, and credit goes to you for participating! Now, I just hope we have some great ideas for 2009 to keep you all interested! In 3rd place, with 13 points, it is the Infantry. After such a promising start, it all fell away. Hopefully 2009 will be a better year. In 2nd place, it is the Archers, who gained 15 points. A much better performance compared to 2007, and you were often battling it out with the Cavalry. Keep up the good work for 2009! Throughout the year, like in 2007, organisation, teamwork and strength in depth saw this Regiment end up as the winners of The Best Regiment of the Year for the second year running with a total of 21 points. As a result, they claim bragging rights for the year over the other Regiments with regards to the best Regiment. However, with the competitions for 2009 starting soon, will they be able to maintain such a high standard and hold onto their award for a third year?? I'm sure the Archers and Infantry will have something to say about that! Therefore, the winners of The Best Regiment of 2008 is... Corki opens the envelope and reads out the name on the sheet of paper. The Cavalry!!!! Would F Horn of Valere, the current Captain-General, like to come and collect the award for his Regiment?? Loads of cheering (with some jeering) is heard from the Band as F Horn of Valere makes his way onto the stage with Corki. Corki shakes his hand, gives him a Silver Trophy, a medal and several Kegs of Marshal-General's Special Battle Brew to share amongst his Regiment.

Once F Horn of Valere had collected the award for his Regiment, the crowd goes silent as the Marshal-General waves his hands for the final award. Now, we come onto the last award of all. This is the main award of the evening, and of the ORG. This award is for The Best Band Member of 2008. The winner of this award is a Member who has put the most effert into the Band as an ORG, helping it get to its successful position of today. To me, you are all winners of this award, as each Band Member does that, no matter how often they post! Now, the following 5 members were nominated by the Committee, and I will say a little bit about each person. They were: - Corki, Marshal-General, ORG Leader, and asscoiated with the Cavalry - BridMorgan of the Cavalry, Under-Commander, 2iC of the Band of the Red Hand - Direwolf Jon of the Cavalry, Executive Officer, 3iC of the Band of the Red Hand - Taymist of the Infantry, ex-Under-Commander - Mystica of the Infantry, Hornsounder Editor-in-Chief All are worthy nominees. Despite my protests, I didn't want to be nominated, but the committee said I should put my name forward. I hope they have egg on their face now, as I got a big fat zero! Not that I am surprised, as I didn't have the best year. 2009 will be different though... BridMorgan has been a valuable member of the Senior Staff for a year now. Firstly, working with the Recruits, and now with points after Tay stepped down. A hard worker, a good thinker and a highly valued member of the Senior Staff. Direwolf Jon has stepped up nicely to being a Senior Staff member. His value to the Band has been shown by him winning the Regimental Award for the Cavalry this year. Also, he is a fellow accountant - a big bonus! Any other accountants out there in the Band so we can remove Brid and have an accountancy triumvirate? Only kidding, Brid! ;D And Taymist, who was last year's winner. She has stepped up on many occasions when things were hectic for me. She was someone I could trust when I was away. She was full of ideas, and had plenty of energy for whatever the Band needed doing. I hope she comes back refreshed from her current computerlessness status. It was a big loss to lose her from the Senior Staff during 2008. Mystica - constantly nagging me over the Hornsounder, but it's my own fault most of the time. She has put considerable blood, sweat and tears into our newspaper while being in charge. Despite what she probably thinks, she is passionate and highly regarded in my eyes. And now, the winner of The Best Band Member of 2008. Picking up the most votes was someone who thoroughly deserves this award - and happens to keep their grubby hands on it as well! Therefore, The Best Band Member of 2008 is... Corki takes the last envelope, and opens it up. He looks at the name, and smiles as he announces the winner. Taymist!!!!! Loads of cheering is heard from the Band as Taymist makes her way to the stage and Corki. Corki kisses her cheek, gives her her Silver Trophy, her medal and a Mug of Marshal-General's Special Battle Brew.

Once Taymist had collected her award, the crowd goes silent as the Marshal-General waves his hands.Ladies and Gentlemen of the Band of the Red Hand, thank you very much for turning up for tonight's Matrim's award celebration, honouring and praising everyone who has been a Band Member throughout the year of 2008. It has been a good year, and I have had a great time with the honour of leading you guys and lasses. As I mentioned earlier, 2008 wasn't as good a year as 2007, but progress was made. The year still managed to leave good memories, most noteably winning the Best ORG and Community Thread at DM in the Emperor Awards. I don't think we will win the Best ORG in 2009, but that doesn't bother me at the moment. I am now looking at the 2010 Emperor Awards (if they happen). All the activity I am trying to push towards DM is for a purpose - to show DM what we can do. And it would be greatly beneficially if you get involved in these activities - and well done to those that do. I do my best to create things that allow you to say as little as much as you want (as I know not everyone gets on with DM). I aim to get a balance between here and DM. And I plan to get my hands dirty this year - I want to finish the wiki site and I want another Matrim Award! Now, for a toast to our memories of the Band in 2008 as the Awards draw to an end. May we take the memories from the past year with us into 2009 and through our lives; may we remember the friends we have made here at the Band of the Red Hand; may we remember the friendships we have made no matter how large or small the Band gets; may we let new members into into these existing friendships. That will make us a stronger and better ORG, and make us an example to the rest of DM. Also, as we get ever larger, we must always think of ways to keep the Band fun, to keep old Members interested, to get new members to join, to be the best ORG at DM! Loud cheering is heard from the assembled Banders as the toast to memories, friendship and strength are raised. 2008 was a good year, but I feel 2009 will be better - and better than 2007, which I felt was our best year! I have much in store for us to make sure that is the case! A toast to the 2009 and the future is raised.A few things to finish on. Firstly, I think The Emperor Awards will be coming up at DM again shortly. We must support all Banders who get nominated. But I will pass news of this on when I know more. Secondly, CARAI AN SHEN AN CALHAR!!! And finally, now that all the formalities are done, it is time to celebrate the year that was 2008 - the memories, the award winners and their acceptance speeches, the Members of the Band, 2009 and how it is going to be a bigger and better year! Anything and everything! So, lets celebrate as only the Band can celebrate! And there is an endless supply of Brew! And that includes M-G Brew! Until I say it has run out! Corki grabs his Brew and makes a toast.CARAI AN SHEN AN CALHAR!!!! The Marshal-General opens his gullet and downs his Brew to start the celebrations!

Whoa! Sharing Funniest with me brother Footy #cool-smiley-027# .. The ONLY thing better was if I had been in a three way tie with little brother Demon too. Honestly, thank you all who voted for us. Speaking for myself, this is the best award I could ever win. I'm a lazy bugger and won't get best Cav or best BotRH in my OR your lifetimes. Those are for the likes of Tay and DJ in my book and my trinket encrusted headscarf is off to them both. Funniest is my ultimate and I do try to bring a chuckle to you all on occasion. Sharing this with Foots is the best. He and Demon both give me posts to riff off of time and time again and inspire me to heights of sillyness I don't think I could ever reach on my own..
And Gamers Gamer with Snin!! How great is that?!! I've always thought it was the award for the person most would truly like to avoid battling with out of shear unadulterated fear... GRRRrrrrrrrrrr.. ooops...ummm .. Arrrrrrrrrrrrgh.. This has always been me brother to me. He scares me spitless. But I guess this year I was ugliest #innocent0009# and I will wear the medallion proudly and try to live up to those who've instilled the mussing of small clothes before me #angry-smiley-013# #devil-smiley-026# #knight# ... ..... ....
and avoid Snin like the plague!
